Thomas Robles is deeply committed to advancing opportunities for California college students and their families. Thomas’ journey through higher education has been marked by resilience and determination as he navigated the challenges of being a first-generation student while simultaneously working multiple jobs and caring for his fatally ill parents. Despite facing numerous obstacles, including financial hardship and familial responsibilities, Thomas remained steadfast in pursuing academic excellence. His experiences as a first-generation student have instilled in him a profound understanding of the barriers many students from similar backgrounds face in accessing and succeeding in Higher Education. Throughout his educational journey, he has been driven by a passion for empowering underrepresented communities and breaking down systemic barriers to success. With 17 years of dedicated public service, Thomas has actively sought opportunities to make a meaningful impact in the lives of students and families. Currently pursuing a Doctorate in Educational Leadership (EdD) at CSUSB, his research focuses on supporting first-generation Latino college students. Thomas draws upon his own experiences to inform his scholarly work. In addition to his academic pursuits, Thomas holds positions at Long Beach City College and San Bernardino Valley College, where he leverages his expertise to enhance student support and promote inclusive practices. As a board member of the UC Riverside Alumni Network—OC Branch and a leader within the San Bernardino Valley College Foundation, Thomas is committed to fostering alumni connections and opportunities while advocating for the needs of marginalized communities. Thomas’ dedication to higher education and social justice is underscored by his ongoing commitment to completing his dissertation on the impact of Family Achievement Guilt among Latino males at the Community College level. He aspires to continue his career within higher education, where he can advocate for and uplift marginalized communities, fostering a more inclusive and equitable future for all.
